Welcome, Baby Ian!

So....We pretty much dropped off the blogosphere while we were getting our house and lives ready for our new baby.  We last left things with "we will let you know what the gender of our baby is".  Well, Its a Boy!  Our son, Ian Michael, took his first breaths at 12:28 on Friday, June 14.  Amanda started to labor in the wee hours of the morning and we checked into the hospital at about 4 am.  She progressed slowly and steadily for the first five or six hours that we were at the hospital.  Little Ian was having a dance party in her belly, which I tried to document in the video below, but as soon as the film started rolling, he calmed down a bit.

Amanda had an epidural a little before 11 am, and I decided to go in to work (my office is about 2 minutes from the hospital) to take care of some things while she tried to  rest.  She called me at about noon to tell me that things were starting to happen and that I should make my way back soon.  About ten minutes later, she called again and said that I needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible.  That lit a fire under me. The next time she called, I was in the turn lane to pull into the Hospital driveway.  She told me to run when I parked the car, so I did.  I arrived at the delivery room about 5 minutes before the doctor and about 15 minutes later we had a little boy!  It was a much different experience than the labor and delivery experience we had with Hannah.  Here are the baby stats:

Name:  Ian Michael
Date and Time of Birth: June 14, 2013 at 12:28 pm
Weight: 8 lb 4 oz
Height: 21 inches

I have included some pictures below for your enjoyment:

Crazy Holiday Madness

I am sorry that I have been neglectful the last few months.  I have been busy growing a baby (which involves being pretty medicated and sick) and trying to wrangle a 2-year old.  So needless to say I have been pretty busy.
Lets do a quick holiday recap.
Halloween
The Grinch and Cindy-Lou Who were quite the site to see.  Hannah had a blast Trunk-or-Treating at the annual church Halloween Party.  We opted to skip going out door to door because Daddy was out of town and Mommy was feeling the effects of morning sickness all night.  Instead we had a few friends over and passed out candy to some of the neighborhood kids.  It was exciting because it was the first year that we actually had people come to our door.
Thanksgiving
We had the lowest key Thanksgiving I think possible.  Josh couldn't go without all the trimmings so he spent the day cooking while Hannah and I did a little vegging.  The food was great thanks to our wonderful chef.  We had a great dinner and a relaxing time Skyping with the family that we couldn't be with.
Christmas
We had the opportunity to host my younger brother Cameron and his wife Katie for the holiday.  They drove in from Austin since we are the closest family.  We had a blast exploring the city in 70 degree weather on Christmas Eve and opening lots of presents on Christmas Morning.  Here we are in the aftermath of the festivities complete with matching jammies that I whipped together that weekend (so much for planning ahead and buying the fabric at Thanksgiving).
We decided it had been so nice that the zoo might be a fun place to visit before the family headed out. It was fun despite the nice weather abandoning us so we all froze as we walked around.  We saw the Tigers.
Hannah learned to use her pockets.
And we had a lot of fun visiting the rest of the animals, including the giraffes.
And Just for good measure, here is a cute picture of Hannah sporting her Christmas dress.
I am going to try to be back soon to share some pictures of the crazy house projects that we have been up to lately as well and next week we will have the big gender reveal of the baby that is hiding in my belly. (That is how we have been explaining it to Hannah so that she can somewhat understand).

Sombody Turned 2!

We had a fun week celebrating Hannah's Birthday.  We started of Monday night, her birthday eve, with dinner at the mall and a ride on the Carousel.
Tuesday morning we started the day off with pancakes, which is one of Hannah's favorite breakfasts.  Daddy even made her one in the shape of a 2.  Her maternal cousins sent a picture of them all wishing her a Happy Birthday that we turned into a place-mat, but I didn't get a very good picture of it before it was under the plate.
After we sent Daddy off to work we had four of Hannah's friends over for our weekly Mother's Day Out and had an H themed party.  We made "h"ats and had cupcakes, but I was so busy trying to keep up with five 2 and 3 year olds that I forgot to take a single picture or video.
Before Mommy ran off to church with the youth for the evening we sang Happy Birthday and opened her presents from family that we had received.

This is Hannah with her new kitchen that Mommy and Daddy spent the better part of a month building.
She instantly found that if she opened the oven door it made a great ramp/stool to reach the hooks (we have already had to reattach it once).
She has fun showing off the dress that she tells everyone "Megan made it." when they compliment her on it.
And she loves all of the different food and kitchen supplies.
Wednesday our Playgroup was going to the Zoo and it had been a plan to go for her birthday anyways so Daddy took the morning off of work and was very out of place with all of the moms and babies, but it was fun anyways.  We saw Tigers up close through windows.
Shipped Hannah to the zoo as a "Live Tiger".
 We saw some elephants...
 and giraffes.
We saw lots of other animals and Hannah had a ton of fun on the playground during lunch.  Sorry she looks silly in all of the pictures.  She was in a goofy mood and wouldn't sit still at all.
We rounded out the week with a check-up, some shots, and another ride on the Carousel.  We decided to skip the big party that we had originally planned with some friends because life is busy!

The end of the Summer

So to say the least we have been busy the last few months.  At the end of July we flew out to the other LA for a few days for Jason's and Liz's wedding.  It was beautiful and a lot of fun.  We had a blast with the extended family and the cousins especially had a blast.
While we were gone someone had a run in with our mailbox leaving it looking about like this.

We have been wanting to replace it because it was already a little broken and leaked every time it rained (which is a lot in Baton Rouge).  Now we had a little extra motivation since it could no longer hold mail, which means the USPS wouldn't deliver it.  So we headed to the hardware store and got a new post, exterior paint, box, and numbers.  After a few coats of primer and paint and a new hole we had a functioning mailbox again.  But we weren't done yet.  Mulch and flowers were on sale so Josh and I made this nice little planter.  The stones were from around the koi pond that we removed a few months back.  Josh just broke them into smaller pieces and pieced them together.  During this process we also learned that our creeping grass has taken over about six inches of our driveway.
After over a year, Hannah can now play in her Playroom.
When we took all of the popcorn ceilings down in the bedrooms before we moved in, we rushed it and didn't let everything dry long enough before we painted the walls.  This left two main problems: first, we didn't take the time to skim coat the ceiling to hide the nails or the ceiling damage and secondly, when we removed the tape after painting the walls it took the paint, primer, and, in some cases, the drywall tape with it.  Almost every bedroom ceiling looks like this (this is from the master).
So we finally got the motivation and the funding to start fixing the problem.  We started in the playroom because we have been using it as a place to store all of the stuff that we don't want to deal with.  It looked something like this for most of the last year.
After sorting through most of it and moving all of it we covered the entire floor in plastic and fixed the ceiling.
Then Josh tried out the new paint sprayer on all of the shelves that were going to be built or reinstalled.  We found that it was just wasteful to use it on the ceiling.  We then painted the ceiling, patched some damaged spots on the walls, and painted the walls (because I have decided that I only like half of the colors that we chose when we initially painted the entire interior).
Then we built storage shelves for Hannah's toys.  They may look a lot like Ikea shelves, but they cost a lot less and I could customize the size more.
I also made fun labels for the boxes.  Since Hannah can't quite read (though she will tell you otherwise), I found pictures online to illustrate the categories.  With my trusty laminator and spray adhesive they were looking great.
We found the table and chairs at the Habitat Restore a few weeks back and gave them a friendly coat of paint.  The table top is chalkboard paint which explains that chalky mess that Hannah loves.
We also reinstalled the desk in the closet with a few modifications so that I can have a project space.  I haven't quite organized it, but most of the mess is from the costumes that I have already started working on.  At some point we hope to install french-style doors to increase storage and decrease the chances of little fingers getting into things.  In the short term, I am looking for a baby gate that is wide enough to do the job.  We are still looking to do a few more finishing touches, but only time will tell what they are.
In the midst of all of our projects, we had this pesky hurricane come visit for a couple days.  We lost power for a few days and most of our yard was under several inches of water (which, sadly, is not uncommon for any hard rain).  Luckily, Josh has some great bosses.  One of them lent us a generator and portable AC while another lent us a fan and some gas.  But we didn't let it get our spirits down!  Hannah and Josh even had a blast cooking dinner on the grill one night while it stormed.
Funny thing: it was too wet to rake-up the debris from the storm, but just wet enough to make digging out the Monkey Grass along the front walk much easier.  As we dug it out, we realized that our over-grown yard has been hiding several inches of our front walk and that we actually have a small front porch.  After sorely underestimating the amount of mulch we needed (and Josh having an unfortunate encounter with poison ivy) we eventually cleaned-up the front planter.  We haven't decided what to do with it yet, but we reused some paving stones that were randomly placed in the backyard for a little walk between the driveway and front door.  We also replanted a bush that you can't even see in the picture from when we moved in, but was on the edge of the driveway close to the house.

The mulch didn't look great long since it is fall, and in our yard that means lots of acorns and leaves.
Another item that has kept us very busy is potty training.  We have been working very slowly on this for several months, but one morning when we had forgotten to wash the diapers Josh and Hannah thought panties were a great solution.  I was not nearly as excited since I knew the work was going to mostly fall on me.  But after several pairs of wet pants and panties she finally started to get the hang of it.  About a month or so later she is really mostly on top of it during her waking hours.
Here are a few random Hannah pictures, because who doesn't like that?!
Playing beauty shop with Max.
Cuddling with her favorite cat while watching her favorite show, Curious George.
Washing Baby Sarah in the sink.  Don't let her size confuse you; she has a few age spots from being about 24 years old.
For some reason this was how she needed to be dressed for "work" one evening.  She then proceeded to walk the neighborhood like this as we waited for Daddy to come home.  The complete ensemble is her normal clothes, a tutu, Rapunzel braid, hat (that is too small), and stroller with an empty back pack and (I think) a doll.
Hannah making scary monster faces at breakfast one day.
Hannah pretending to be a cat with Max.  I don't remember what they were looking at or why she is topless.  My best guess is rain.  She loves to watch it and get naked in it.
Hannah drawing in a box.  Why?  Cause that's my girl!
